MADRID, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- Atletico Madrid was the most active club in Spain on the final day of the winter transfer window, completing three signings in the hours before the market closed until the summer.
The club signed Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman from Atalanta on a deal that runs until June 2030 and also brought in Mexican defensive midfielder Obed Vargas from the Seattle Sounders.
Vargas has agreed to a 4.5-year deal with Atletico and will help cover for the departure of Conor Gallagher, who joined Tottenham from Atletico earlier in January.
The third signing on Monday was Elche's Spain Under-21 midfielder Rodrigo Mendoza, who has signed until the end of June 2031 for a fee reported to be around 16 million euros.
Mendoza is considered one of the most promising young midfielders in Spain, although he was not a regular starter for his former club.
The new arrivals add depth to a squad that was starting to look thin after Gallagher's departure was followed by those of defender Javi Galan to Osasuna, forward Carlos Martin to Rayo Vallecano and Giacomo Raspadori to Atalanta.
Other deadline deals elsewhere saw Celta Vigo sign right back Alvaro Nunez from Elche, with forward Fer Lopez returning on loan from Wolverhampton, while winger Bryan Zaragoza ended his loan from Bayern Munich to join Roma.
Alaves brought in forward Ibrahim Diabate on loan and signed winger Angel Perez from second-division Huesca.
Finally, midfielder Alvaro Fidalgo signed for Betis from Club America.
