MADRID, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Spain coach Luis de la Fuente has called Athletic Club Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte to replace the injured Dean Huijsen for Spain's forthcoming World Cup qualifying matches against Georgia and Bulgaria.
Real Madrid central defender Huijsen dropped out of the squad on Wednesday morning after arriving at the headquarters of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) with muscle fatigue two days earlier.
It is the first time that French-born Laporte, who has played for Spain 40 times, has been called into the squad since November 2024.
Spain will face Georgia in Elche on Saturday, before hosting Bulgaria in Valladolid on Tuesday.
