MADRID, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Celta Vigo has assured the future of one of its most promising young players is with the club from northwest Spain by extending the contract of attacking midfielder Williot Sweberg until the end of June 2029.
The 21-year-old Swedish international arrived at the club in 2022, but it was only after Claudio Giranldez replaced Rafael Benitez as first team coach that he began to blossom.
Last season saw Swedberg score four goals and give five assists in 32 appearances as Celta finished seventh in La Liga to qualify for this season's Europa League.
His previous contract had been due to expire in June 2027, and with rumors of interest from other clubs, such as Ajax, PSV Eindhoven or Stuttgart, Celta has moved to keep him at the club.
It has been a complicated summer for Celta, after losing Alfon Gonzalez and Fer Lopez, two other key players last season, to Sevilla and Wolverhampton Wanderers, although former FC Barcelona striker Ferran Jutgla has arrived after a successful spell at Club Brugge.
