MADRID, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Maria Perez of Spain broke the women's 35km race walk world record en route to victory at the European Race Walking Team Championships in Podebrady, the Czech Republic on Sunday.
The 27-year-old Perez, who set the women's 20km race walk national record two months ago, enjoyed a comfortable sole lead for most of the race, breaking the tape in two hours, 37 minutes and 15 seconds.
Her winning mark beat the previous world record set by Peru's double world champion Kimberly Garcia Leon in March by 29 seconds.
Her national teammate Raquel Gonzalez finished as a remote runner-up in 2:45:42, while Cristina Montesinos lagged 16 seconds further behind to complete a podium sweep for Spain.
