MADRID, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Kepa Arrizabalaga on Tuesday expressed his satisfaction at being included in the Spain squad for the forthcoming Euro 2024 qualifying games against Norway and Scotland.
The Chelsea keeper is back in favor at the club after struggling for form in recent years and his reward for returning to the Chelsea first team is an inclusion in Luis de la Fuente's first squad as coach of the Spanish national team.
It is Kepa's first international call-up in two years.
"I think I am prepared, keen and I want to play. But it is a question for the coach. He is the one who decides. I have to be prepared and take advantage of the opportunity," said the keeper in a press conference.
Kepa admitted he had had a "complicated period" after struggling for form in the wake of his world record move from Athletic Club Bilbao to Chelsea and losing his place to Edouard Mendy.
"I had never stopped playing in my life and the situation affected me, I made a point of coming home every day with a calm head, seeing each game as a chance and trying to make the most of every game to try and be a better goalkeeper," he said.
Kepa explained that De la Fuente had told him that it was important he played regularly for his club and that he "understood" that.
"My first goal was to play for my club for this to be the next step," he said.
