CORDOBA, Argentina, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- Home favorite Sebastian Baez advanced to the last eight of Argentina's Cordoba Open on Wednesday with a straight-set victory over Italian Luciano Darderi.
The fourth seed needed just one hour and 25 minutes to prevail 6-3, 6-4 on the outdoor clay of the Polo Deportivo Kempes complex in Cordoba.
The 22-year-old, who is currently ranked 47th in the world, will meet Tomas Barrios in the quarterfinals after the Chilean overcame Spaniard Bernabe Zapata 7-6 (6), 6-2.
Others to progress in the ATP 250 event on Wednesday were Italian Marco Cecchinato, Portugal's Joao Sousa and Hugo Dellien of Bolivia, all of whom beat Argentine opponents.
Cecchinato overcame Facundo Bagnis 6-2, 7-6; Sousa defeated Tomas Etcheverry 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4; and Dellien disposed of Pedro Cachin 6-3, 6-4.
