Spanish designer Paco Rabanne dies aged 88

MADRID, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- World-renowned Spanish fashion designer Paco Rabanne has died, it was announced on Friday.

The Puig Group, which owns the Paco Rabanne brand of clothes and fragrances, said in a statement:

"The House of Paco Rabanne wishes to honor our visionary designer and founder who passed away today at the age of 88. Among the most seminal fashion figures of the 20th century, his legacy will remain a constant source of inspiration."

Meanwhile, Puig's Chief Executive Marc Puig said he was "profoundly saddened" by the designer's death, whose work he described as "daring, revolutionary and provocative."

Born in the Basque region of Spain in 1934, Paco Rabanne became famous in the 1960s. He was best known for designing futuristic "space-age" dresses.

He died at his home in the town of Finisterre, northeastern Spain.
