MADRID, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona women's team Femini have been expelled from the Copa de la Reina knockout tournament for fielding an ineligible player in the previous round.

Barcelona have been punished for playing with former Madrid CFF forward Geyse Ferreira in their last-16 tie against Osasuna, when Geyse was suspended after having been sent off in the Copa de la Reina for her previous club last season.

Although Barcelona won the game 9-0, Osasuna appealed against Geyse's presence in the side and the Spanish Football Federation's appeals committee have accepted their reclamation.

Sevilla have also been expelled from this season's tournament after winning 1-0 against Villarreal, after their player Nagore Calderon participated in that game when she too was suspended.

Osasuna and Villarreal's names now go into the pool for the quarterfinal draw.

The cases are very similar to that which saw Real Madrid expelled from the Copa del Rey in 2015, when Denis Cheryshev took part in a cup game against Cadiz when he was suspended for an accumulation of yellow cards while at Valencia the previous season.
