MADRID, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Espanyol's Chinese striker Wu Lei has proved to be one of the biggest attractions in an auction carried out to help raise funds for people affected by the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the island of La Palma.
In order to raise funds to help people evacuate from their homes, La Liga is auctioning the signed shirts of all of the players who played in the ninth round of matches in the tournament last weekend.
With a bid of 1,400 euros (1,630 U.S. dollars), the shirt Wu Lei wore in Espanyol's win over Cadiz on Monday is currently the second-highest valued of all the shirts, which are up for grabs until November 2.
The most highly valued shirt belongs to FC Barcelona striker Memphis Depay (1,899 euros).
Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Athletic Club and Granada have so far not entered the auction as they didn't play last weekend, but the offer for Wu Lei's shirt, which comes from China, shows how his presence helps raise the club's profile in his homeland.
