Barcelona on the frontline in the cancer fight

Cancer has become the leading killer of the elderly in Europe; it is an awful, painful disease that has become something akin to a pandemic. Progress has been made in its diagnosis, and further progress is being made in its treatment, and Barcelona, by hosting the European Breast Cancer Conference, is playing a major part in the sharing of ideas and knowledge to facilitate improvements and new breakthroughs.

The city of Barcelona will play a significant role in the prevention and promotion of awareness of breast cancer when it hosts the annual European Breast Cancer Conference this year. Breast cancer is among the leading killers of women around the world, and although mortality has begun to drop worldwide, and especially in Europe, there is still much progress that can be made. Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia, is located on the coast and bounded by the Collserola ridge and rivers Besós and Llobregat. The city is less than 150 kilometres fromthe Pyrenees. Barcelona's location on the shores of the Mediterranean means that it enjoys a warm, welcoming climate and pleasant temperatures all year round.
